Current Setup – Windows 2008 VM running vCenter 5.0 and VUM on a external 2008 SQL database.
Goal – New Windows 2012 R2 VM, fresh 5.5 u2 vCenter/VUM install using the existing external 2008 SQL database.
Before game day – Setup and validate the VC and VUM ODBC’s work on the windows 2012 R2 VM. https://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003928
- Stop and Disable all VMware Services on the 5.0 VC
- Backup the vCenter and VUM SQL databases
- Install vCenter 5.5 u2 on the Windows 2012 VM choosing the existing Database. Web Client must be installed on C:\
- During the vCenter component, ESXi hosts in a cluster will have a HA agent pushed out. This can spike the CPU on the VC…just be patient and do NOT reboot!
- Install VUM choosing the existing Database
- Validate the c# and web client navigation, search, VUM tab scan. Ensure all ESXi hosts are connected (right click and re-connect maybe needed). Reboot the windows 2012 VM to benchmark how long it takes to reboot the OS and how long the VMware service take to start.
